Green Spaces Alliance
Sustaining Resources to Sustain our Community

Land Conservation & Stewardship

Originally founded as Bexar Land Trust in 1998, Green Spaces Alliance of South Texas started as a small, local, urban land trust focused on land conservation activities. The conservation emphasis has since spread to activities in the Southern Edwards Aquifer region and the San Antonio and Nueces River Basins. We are accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission and have helped conserve over 50,000 acres in our region. Our trained and knowledgeable staff will walk you through every step of the process, and our local experience and personal touch will ensure peace of mind.

As a local land trust, our landowner relationships underline accurate information about land conservation and help provide available options to achieve long-term goals for ecologically healthy properties, preserving family heritage, potential economic benefits, and the evaluation of natural resource management practices. Since 2000, we have been part of a team that negotiates conservation easements in Bexar, Medina, and Uvalde counties through the City of San Antonio’s Edwards Aquifer Protection Program. The program has resulted in over 143,000 acres of conserved land over critical areas that recharge the Edwards Aquifer, the City’s major source of drinking water.
